I have an '86 F-250 which I ahve converted to a 460. Truck has no AC. When it had a 351w in there the PO had the York compressor set up for compressed air. I want to duplicate this setup with the 460 and do it properly with a tank and pressure switch. Truck has a small case alternator low mount pass side (single belt, front of crank pulley) and power steering on driver side (Ford pump), which is dual belt on the two rear grooves of the crank pulley and also both belts go around the watear pump too. Used to have the dual smog pump setup but that is gone, though the smog pump bracket is still there. I do have a set of proper early 429 alt brackets I can use to eliminate the huge monster cast smog pump+alt bracket.
I have a couple small block York compressor mount brackets, from the '86 351w and also from some '60s 302 setups. I don't think these will work, or if they will I need additional parts.
What I need is the brackets and any pulleys to mount the compressor on my 460. I would also like to have this compressor turning as fast as possible at idle/high idle to get the max air from it. It will not be used at speed or higher RPM and I want to ensure maximum CFM at lowest engine RPM/fuel consumption. I'm not sure of the stroke/pump displacement of my York compressor but I have several on hand to choose from and I believe the one previously on there was one of the larger pumps.
Does anyone have a picture of the factory air conditioning setup on these trucks, presumably the earlier ones that would have used the York compressor? How are the belts routed? How does the bracketry fit in with the power steering pump? Any source for brackets aside from used/junkyard? I see L&L has some brackets, PN 010166, but they list for years '67-'81. Will these work with my current pulleys and bracket setup? Other options?
Except for a few pictures showing hoses & condensers & fans & such (some of which are just generic applications), below are all the 460-specific, AC-related pictures as they relate to trucks & vans in the 80-89 Light Truck Parts Manual (available on CD at hipoparts.com for around $20 (I think there's a 70s version available, too)):
If you're interested in finding any specific parts NOS, tell me their numbers (and which of the 7 images they're shown on).
Caduncle, I have everything including a compressor from my 86 except the large plate (2889 or 19E577 in P-18047) and the spacer (8A652). Those parts I sent to mtplow so he could get his power steering pump working. He doesn't show all the pulleys, but the AC belt goes over the water pump also.
