I'm spending a good portion of the next few days with my old truck. Among several other things, I am trying to figure out how the AC compressor (when I get the kit) will mount.
I see mid-fifty sells a bracket that mounts on the driver side head and puts it pretty high in the air.
My particular 351 has the power steering pump on that side already, also high (but not as high as the compressor in the mid-fifty picture. Alternator is on the passenger side (of course) and have a mechanical fuel pump down low on driver side. So....
can the PS and AC both be on drivers side? Where might I get brackets to help get it all in.... Thanks!
raerjim,
Actually not replacing. Adding. Planning on something from vintage air or old air (not sure which yet). The pic below shows what the accessories looked like before I tore it down. Note the saginaw ps pump that I'm hoping to re-use, on the driver side and alternator on passenger.
What I would like to do is keep power steering on driver and have alternator/compressor on passenger side.
These are stock brackets on my 351 which came out of an 83 F150, they are not the prettiest of brackets but what I'm going to use for this build. I'll be using a Vintage Air sure fit kit and they generally supply any additional hardware to mount the compressor.
I recently installed brackets on a SBF so I could move forward with the installation of my AC on my F1. All the brackets, clutch fan, A/C compressor ect was sourced from a 1984 Crown Vic, I preferred this set up because It uses 2 rib belts. It is not considered a true serpentine set up, as the water pump still turns standard rotation, which is what i wanted. I always try to use OEM brackets from a salvage yard if possible because I feel the fit is far superior to anything made aftermarket. I updated the alternator to 2002 era, 1 wire set up. It fit without any modifications to the bracket.
I bought the two brackets from Vintage air that will mount both the AC and PS on the driver's side down lower than that mile high bracket you are talking about. It will replace the factory PS bracket and give me a AC bracket. I did not want my AC rubbing on the hood (kidding but that thing is way to high).
I can't provide pictures as I have not installed it yet, not much need for it when we got over a foot of snow yesterday and 12 degrees this am, yea all of CA is not on the beach.
