i have a 1973 super camper special, i had some questions about the vin tag, an also the heater/ac system. if anyone knows the scs trucks very well please let me know. thanks
well il start with the vin tag because i cant seem to find much info on it. here it wat is says. also in between the YEK and MID FT is the number 1 punched out of the tag. what does that mean?
f35YRRxxxxx 22-220
YX 140 BDY 4 MAG
MB COMB MLD RNG RKR
Y E K MID FT
i no the f35 means f350 and the Y stands for 360 v8, also the R stands for build in san jose. i no the 140 stands for the scs wheel base but im confused what the YX before it means. also after the bdy 4 standing for the style of bed i dont no what the MAG is and after that the rest i no nothing about. any help would be great thanks

F35YRRXXXXX
22-220 YX 140 BDY 4 MAG MB COMB MLD RNG RKR Y E K MID FT Look below these abbreviations...do you see any printed codes other than 140 and BDY 4?
140 = 140" Wheelbase / BDY 4 = Styleside Pickup.
With these two exceptions, these abbreviations don't mean diddly, because there are no codes associated with them until 1981.
You got the VIN and etc from the Safety Standards Certification Label glued to the B pillar (door post, below the striker plate).
Welcome to FTE
The Safety Standards Certification Label for trucks of this vintage has the Production Date (upper corner), VIN, Front/Rear GVW and that's about it.
Look on the left door face below the latch for the riveted on metal Warranty Plate, has the following stamped on it:
First line: VIN / Second line: W.B. (wheelbase), codes for the COLOR, MODEL, BODY, TRANS, AXLE / Third line: Actual GVW, code for DSO / Post what they are.
There is no VIN tag on trucks of this vintage. Beginning in the 1980's, the tag is attached to the left corner of the dash, visible thru the windshield, has only the VIN stamped on it.
thank you, that makes sense now why i couldnt find anything on the other letters. another question is my heater an a/c system. in the engine compartment on the passenger side my inner wheel well is shaped as is to fit for a big a/c box mounted to the firewall but there is no sign of anything ever have been put there just the regular blower motor sticking out, an also there are four heater hoses coming out of the firewall. then on the inside i have my normal heater controls with cool to warm, an floor or defrost. besides those controls i have two other controls to the right, one that controls another fan speed an another **** that says city on the left and highway on the right and on the **** it has a picture of a snow flake. did my truck come with a/c mounted inside the cab an thats what the other hoses coming out of the firewall are for? y would they put an a/c wheel well in then? not that im complaining because i plan to go cummins one day and that will help with space for the turbo. just curious.

Three different types of A/C were offered for these trucks (1973/79 F100/350).
1) Factory installed Integral A/C is combined with the heater. The A/C controls are in the same panel as the heater controls.
2) Deluxe dealer installed A/C is combined w/the heater. The A/C controls are in the HUGE dash bezel that sweeps across the entire right side of the dash, covers up the original glove box.
There is a separate 'hang-on' glovebox, bolts to the bottom of the dash.
3) Economy dealer installed A/C is not combined with the heater. The A/C controls (two switches) mount into a panel that also contains two registers.
This panel fits into the dash, to the left of the glovebox.
In addition to these three genuine Ford units, aftermarket A/C were also available from Mark IV, Sears, Western Auto, Climactic Air and etc.
awsome thanks for all the info. so the other two hoses coming out of my firewall used to go to the a/c compressor. since i will be going with the cummins what are the chances i could use the dodge a/c pump already on the motor and just connect the hoses back up to the new pump. would the new freon work with the rest of my old a/c components? i will be going with a 1996 through 1998 cummins
