Hi guys I'm new to the forum, my problem is, I have a 89 f150 4x4, 4.9 straight 6. It use to be a manual 5 speed, but swapped it to an auto, the reason being is that the clutch went on the truck n I couldn't get above 40mph in 5 gear, so I decided to swap to an automatic, at first I put an AOD in it, but had no 3rd gear, took that out n put a c6 in it, slipped really bad, finally said screw it and bought a new tci maximizer, put that in, and have all three gears but doesn't down shift when slowing down or around a corner n redlines in third gear at 35mph, and sometimes at 40mph, when in third gear I can't above 40mph and its screaming. What am I doing wrong, I called tci and they said to clean my govenor, but all three tranys did the same the only diff is I have all three gears with the new trans, any help info would be great thanxs guys.
Probably better to post this either on the transmission page or on the `87-`96 F-series page.
However it would sound that your transfer case is in 4lo.

TCI is probably right...It is very easy for a small piece of debris to stick the govenor. Can you manually put it in low and it down shift when your slowing down...I mean like 5-10 miles an hour...if it does down shift then your govenor is probably the problem.
haven't tried that, still got to fittle with my shifter cable to get it to 1st and 2nd when down shift, for some reaon I'm having trouble with the cable, but I wanted to just get to put it in drive, but the case isn't in low, like lazy k suggested. When I put it in 4low, my indicater on the dash will turn on. Even before I made the swap from the stick to auto, it would do the same thing, even the aod trans and the used c6. Even the new trans, tell u the truth its leaving me stumpped. But ill try the govoner and let u guys know. If u guys have any other suggestions, your opinions are appreciated. Thanx
