Hey guys, not to sure on where to post this, but I have an 89 f150 4.9 6cyl. The truck had a 5speed in it but the clutch went, brought it to the the shop and had a new clutch pUt in, but when driven, the truck wouldn't have any power aNd just reved, so decided to swap to an auto, first had an aod, stiLl had No power. Or 3rd gear, took that out n went w a c6, same thing, slipped pretty bad, decided to go w a new tci maximizer trans, put that in, and I have all 3gears but the truck still has no pOwer, redlines in 3rd gear ,has no power and can only get up to 35mph in 3rd. Won't down shift when going around a corner or slowing down, not all the time, just need help on understanding y I can only get up to 35mph n 3rd gear, need help. All the other tranys did the same thing as the new tci but the new trans has all 3 gears. Any suGgestions , thanx
Are you saying the engine revving way up while in 3rd, but only hits 35 max? If so, there's something drastically wrong. The lowest rear gear ratio that was commonly available for an 89 F150 would be 3.55, and 65 MPH would only be around 3K RPM max with a C6 in high gear.
With engine winding up that high at 35 MPH, I have my doubts that it's getting into high gear, unless there's something wrong inside the rear diff, or the truck is a 4wd and the transfer case is in low range.
When I took the truck for a drive around the block, just gently taPping the gas, the truck will shift into all gears, but ends up reving up n not accelerating, and 1st to 2nd it shifts quik, ans same w 3rd, and when u stomp on the gas a bit it doesn't shift . When slowing down, and turning doesn't downshift all the time and sometimes its n 3rd but toping out between 25 and 35 mph basically screaming . Called tci they said to clean the govenor, and this is a new trans from tci, and shifting the tcase it goes into all gears. I'm stumped. The truck should be driving fine but its not. Especiall not being able to get over 35mph n 3rd gear.
You might try posting in the four wheel drive forum, or maybe someone with 4x4 knowledge might chime in. It sound to me like your transfer case is stuck in low range or maybe isn't working properly.
Sorry bout that, the only way I can post is through my phone, have no compu, sometimes I can't find the right forum, but I'm deff gonna look at the case, thanx
