I just bought a 1993 Bronco with a 5.0 in it, and it runs good most of the time, but every time i have to start it, it will die the first time right away, and I will have to turn it over again and most of the time will start up just fine the second time. I was wondering if any of you had this problem, and if you have, what are some possible causes of it. I was thinking about changing the spark plugs. The engine has 98,000 miles and doesn't seem to have ever been changed. I don't know. Thanks for the ideas!
I have a similar problem...but it doesn't die when I first start it it just kinda struggles a minute and then it will rev up...if I start it a second time it starts up good...
You may need to get your fuel injection system cleaned and also have your starter checked, because mine was doing the same except it was making a screeching noise every time.
I have now noticed something. When the engine is cold its very unlikely that the engine will stall. I turn it over, and it starts right up, the RPM's go down a bit, but just as fast as they go down it returns to normal. The guy at autozone suggested maybe the fuel filter. Could this be it? Like I said before I was thinking about changing the spark plugs, just because my girlfriends car was acting in a similar manner before when her plugs were bad. Does anyone else have any ideas what could be wrong!!?? I don't want my dad saying "I told you so" with such an otherwise bueatiful vehicle!
Can you pull codes off a vehicle if the Check Engine light isn't on? If you can, that would be a great idea. But the check engine light isn't on and I know it works because it lights up when the key is in the "on" position before I start it up. Whats a regulator? Thanks for the ideas!
I had the same problem, actually mine would only do it in the summer. I could go all winter with no check engine light on, then as soon as it hit 60deg outside i would get a check engine light, plus when the light came on the engine would always want to stall. I fixed mine by replacing the TPS sensor on the trottle body, also cleaned the trottle body with carb and choke cleaner, and installed a new gasket. Idles better, never stalls, and no check engine light.
Hi, have you pulled a plug to look at it? If you are thinking none of the basics like changing plugs has been performed, why not do them?
If it has original plugs wires and coil, any and all of them could be a problem.
Also, the air filter, pcv, and even vacum hoses/tubes.
Close to 100K miles and all sorts of things could be worn out or leaking.
