I have a 1986 Bronco. I recently had a new motor installed. The work included a rebuilt carborator, radiator, and a new starter. Lately when I go out to start it, it is hard to start. The first few times it just cranks and cranks then finally starts. Then it usually dies and it takes another 5 minutes to start. I also had the selinoid? changed at the same time. Any tips?
Thanks
Have someone check to make sure you are getting fuel when you first start cranking the motor. Also check fuel pumps and filter. Could be that the rebuilt carb need to have the float adjusted. If your fuek system checks out OK, check to see if you are getting good spark to the plugs. How does it run once you do get it started?
Thanks for the tips I will check them out. It runs good once it gets going, even though I only get about 8-10 miles per gallon. I guess that is normal. I thought with all of the work i did it might be a little better. I also had a new flowmaster muffler and catalytic converter installed right after the engine work. Would this have anything to do with it?
Thanks.
If it runs good after you finally get it going, the fuel and spark system is probably OK. I would definately look at the choke and make sure it is operating correctly. It sounds like it is not closing up when you first go to start it.
The new motor is going to be lousy on gas until everything gets broken in. The new cat and flowmaster system shouldn't be causing any problems. Let us know how you make out.
