I want to replace my points distributor. I have a duraspark dizzy, and the control module with the blue grommet. I do not have any wiring to go with it. Would it be easy to wire up? Should I look for a harness in the junk yard? Can someone tell me what wires go where?
OOOOHH, you said a bad word. I work for Carquest. I have all the parts, I just need to know where the wires go (power ground etc.). I have done a search for duraspark in this forum, all I got was people saying that there was a tech article on it but I could not find it.
Well, I have to comment, I don't like the way MustangSteve does it. He powers the module AFTER the resistance wire which means the unit gets a pulsating power from 6 to 12 volts everytime the coil fires.
You really should hook up the red wire to +12 volts.
Not to start a brand war, but you can use a GM 4 pin module also. Standard Ign. # LX301/NAPA # TP45...Easier to hook up and cheaper than the Ford unit. I did it to my old '69 Mustang a few years back & it works just as good. At least if you buy it at a parts store it was never used on a GM.
Car Quest is cool! Core the distributor and install a Pertronix Ignitor. With your employee discount all that should cost less than 50 bucks. Add the adapter. flat cap, 8mm wires and a set of platnium plugs and run heck out of it.
