Decent product or garbage?

Hey guys....

I have a buddy of mine with a 2001 7.3 PSD. He had heard from another friend that this stuff "worked wonders" but I am not so sure this is a good product.

Have any of you guys ever used this stuff?

Must be a good secret because I have never heard of “hot shots secret”. Anything that touts a secret scientific formula if full of BS in my book. I have the same argument with my wife every time a commercial comes on for some ancient beauty secret left undiscovered in the Amazon until now and all we need to do is send in the 19.95 and we can have this amazing treatment…all BS. The ad says it eliminates stiction. Stiction as defined by wisegeek, com states that “Stiction is a portmanteau of “static” and “friction” used to describe situations in which objects which are not sliding remain fixed in place”. Isn’t that what oil does??? I am sure this may work for the types of people that change their oil only when the check engine light comes on but if you take care of your truck, you may not need this “miracle cure”. Personally I would not put this in my truck if it was free…..

The fuel treatment probably isn't all that bad, but I wouldn't stick the oil treatment in the oil.

Here's the best additives in order...Look at Franko's post (second one on the page):

This product always pops up on the threads from time to time. Just like stated above - not many positive threads when pertaining to the 7.3L. IMO you are better of going with a good quality diesel oil that has a robust additive package included and not playing chemist. I've asked a few folks to post up a used oil analysis report with this product added to their oil and still have not yet seen one. I got flamed a few years ago on the forum for challenging them on posting their technical data sheet.

OK So I forwarded on the info...He has a 7.3 F250 but this is going to be for his Wife's expy with the 6L. So it seems it may not be such a bad thing after all. Just as any other snake oil, don't get your hopes up. If it works, then you are happy!

The reason behind this is that he is having hard starts when it is cold...but if he plugs it in, it starts up just fine. I keep telling him check the GPR / GP Module, (I'm not sure which he has), or the glow plugs. I think he is just trying to find a cheaper/easier fix...but you get what you pay for...

Thanks all for the info!

Have him switch to 5w40 synthetic engine oil and his cold starts wil be MUCH better. No need for a snake oil to do that for him when it's just going to mess up his engine oil's additive chemistry. Believe me, the perpetual use of an additive will end up costing him much more than either the GP's or the GPR in the long run.

Rich... good to see you here as well. I've not been able to spend much time at all in FTE for the past year since going back to the engineering office on contract. However, since I've stopped taking individual orders for covers (sticking with a few wholesale accounts for bulk sales), I am finding a little more time in the evenings and during teh day to check in every now and then. Hope your Thanksgiving was good and your upcoming Christmas holidays are even better.

Actually in a 6.0, folks have had good results with hot shot and rev-x both. If your having recoverable injector issues, both of these products have proven to possibly provide a temporary fix. Does it solve the problem? I would say no, but alot of folks have gotten positive results. High mileage injectors don't seem to respond as well, but it may buy some time.

Could potentially maybe provide a little bit of a bandaid fix for an indeterminate amount of time?

Sounds like a great endorsement to me.

A double shot of Diesel clean will do the trick also.

Yeah I wouldn't make a very good rev-x or hotshot salesman would I. Just saying folks having rough starting stiction issues have had good results with these products. Just to be clear, I'm only talking about the oil additive as I know nothing of their other products. Once again, I'm speaking of the 6.0l.
