Sorry if this is a repeat, but i couldn't find a similar issue searching. I have new batteries and full charge, but when I turn the key there is complete silence...crickets. There is no buzzing/clicking from solenoid and no spin of the starter. I replaced the starter solenoid on the passenger fender and no change. I'm stuck in Tucson about 30 miles from home. Any suggestions on what to try? Thanks
If its an automatic, try putting the truck in neutral and starting. Or wiggling the shifter. If that does it, the torx bolts may be loose not letting it full engage park.
If all else fails, use a screwdriver and connect the two large wires on the the starter solenoid that you replace. If that does not crank it, hit the starter with a rock/hammer and also make sure all the wires are tight and the starter is tight to the engine. There have been cases of the starter loosening up.
This may sound pretty basic but do the headlights come on? If yes do they stay on when you try to crank the engine? If you can't see the headlights while trying to start do the lights stay on in the cab?
It sounds like the battery may be dead. Did you try jumping it? The other possibility is just a dirty battery cable. If you can't pull the battery cables to clean them I've had success twisting a screwdriver or even the ignition key between the battery post and the cable. This may make a connection between the post and the cable just to get it going.
I don't believe putting it in neutral will make a difference. The headlights wouldn't go out in the start position if that was the problem. I still agree with BillyBob69 that it's a connection problem or just a dead battery. You mentioned you have a new battery. What do you mean by new? Did you change the battery before this happened? Did the truck just die while it was running or did it just fail to start after it was shut off? It's possible your charging system is failing or another possibility is a bad starter. Let us know what you find.
