<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-comfficeffice" /><o></o> The 55 F100 I bought a couple months ago has a front power disc brake set-up that the PO said was purchased from LMC several years ago (I assume part # 45-3582 from their current catalog). I need to dismantle the front end ( bad king pins, springs, etc), but don’t have the assembly information on the brakes. I’ve seen instructions from some brands that require modifications of spindles/zerk fittings. I called LMC and was told that they don’t have any instructions for the brake conversion kit. If anyone has the LMC instructions they could post it would be much appreciated. I am hoping the instructions also have information on pads and rotors that fit their kit, and if their frame mount master/booster can be used with a firewall mount pedal bracket. Thanks for any help.
If I understand correctly the kit is already installed? Is that correct? The grease zerks should already be installed. If it is and works ok just document the removal of the kit. Take a bunch of pictures or cell phone video and make any notes about the disassembly. I assure you most installation instructions for these kits are less than complete and require some figuring out when installing new. Anytime I take apart anything on these old trucks I take tons of photos, it helps stuff go back together easier. Just my .02. Good luck and if you have specific questions feel free to ask.
I've installed a couple disc brake conversion kits on the 48-52 trucks. I bought the basic kit from Engineered Components Inc (ECI). I helped my buddy with the kit he bought from Speedway Motors. I don't think there's much differences in the kits and they probably all come from the same place originally.
I didn't have to move the grease zerk on either of the installs I did. I have heard of people having to change or move the zerks though.
As far as the rotors go it depends on if you are sticking with the 5 on 5 1/2" bolt circle or are changing over to the smaller car sized pattern. If you are staying with the larger truck bolt patter the rotors were the 73-91 Ford truck rotors.
The inner wheel bearing and grease seal were also 73-91 units
The outer wheel bearing was from a mid 70's through 80's mid sized GM car....Chevelle, Cutlass, Skylark, etc
The kit requires the full sized GM car calipers and pads.
When installing the bearing adapters onto the spindles make sure the spindles are clean and free of burrs. While you are doing that preheat the bearing adapters in your oven to 450 degrees or so. this will expand them a bit and help to slip them on the spindles. I make a driver out of 1 1/2" pipe to help drive them on (actually, just to "seat" them)
I'll dig around and see if I can find my instructions. Don't hold your breath though, its been several years.
