I have a 1960 ford f100. I want to put on front disc brakes and I can't figure out which vehicles I can take the brakes off of that has the same axsle and spindles. Does anyone know where I can find out which other vehicles have the same basic parts as mine??
Your best bet is to go with one of the aftermaket kits. There are several companies selling disc brake conversion kits for these trucks. You can buy a basik kit that comes with the spindle bearing adapter and the caliper mounting brackets or you can bu the full on kits that come with calipers, rotors, and all the goodies.
I used the basic kit from Engineered Components Inc. (ECI). The kit is designed to use GM big car calipers, Ford 73-90ish truck rotors and inner bearings, GM mid sized car outer bearings.
There are alot of suppliers for the disc brake conversion kits; ECI, Master Power Brakes, Speedway Motors, etc
BTW, I got my basic 5x4.5" disc kit for my 55 today from Speedway. It's the CPP kit, which makes it a bargain at a hundred bucks. Uses 70-76 Mopar rotors and 2nd gen Camaro calipers. Looks like a winner, we'll see how it turns out.
I used the ECI kit, it worked perfect. They supply the parts to make the mid 70 rotors work with your spindles. You have to change the outer bearing race and they have a smaller wheel bearing that works with our spindles. They use late 70's GM calipers.
