If I was close, I would haul you and your truck to BTS.
Think about what Les said about the chip and warranty. I'm sure if you decide to get rid of your truck, someone would buy the BTS from you and trade them out.
I would try to get to BTS and watch Brian do his work on the trans.
I most certainly would have enjoyed that!!! Thank you just the same..One of these days Rick I will have the privlage of meeting you!!
Believe me when I say that Torque converotr is weighing heavly on my decision..
Did he want the chip done before you brough the trans to him then??
I have a SuperChip that programs in. I asked him if he wanted it back to 'stock' and he said plug in what you normally drive. He has the manufacture number for the TC in his computers so he know the 'vin' number and he knows which 'shift plate' you have in your transmission. He has his bullet proof transmission, but he will ask you what you plan to do with it so that he can fine tune it to your liking. Will you Race the Truck? Will you compatition pull with the truck. Pulling campers or pleasure driving?
I had Brian ship me a rebuilt. a few months later I was having some shifting problems.... ... I talked to the installer where I live and found out that he Did not clean out the 7.3 cooler..... I called up Brian and he said drive it on down and he would take care of it. I told him that I did not want to make it worse and he said that he was going to tear it apart anyway. When he started tearing into it he said that he was glad that I brought it back to him as the TC bolts were not torqued to the engine right and would have came out. Also a cross member bolt was left out and other things that Brian did not like about the installation. We had pulled our camper to Lead Hill and camped at the Corp of Engineers lake. We got there in the after noon and Brian said that he would start on the transmission that night and finish in the morning. The next morning I called Brian from the campground and asked him about puting in a 6.0 cooler. he told me that he Already had his guys install one. (with out asking or telling me) He said that he did not like the 7.3 cooler in there and that he would not charge me for it. I said that is why I called to have one put on and that I would be glad to buy it. (I had asked about putting in a temp gauge on the transmission?) He said that since I now had the 6.0 cooler in it that I could spend money on other things if I wanted as should never get hot enought to worry about (+ the warrenty). Brian did not say one bad word about me bringing the transmission back or one bad word about the installer. The damage was done and no fault of mine or his, He stood behind his warrenty. Life means life.
My last job was in Sterling Heights, but I lived near Adrian. 80 miles each way, five days a week. I'm glad I don't have to do that anymore.
Sound like my friend's Dad did that. Back/forth Romulus to somewhere in near Flint at Ford. He had 02 Expedition with 297k miles. He use 2011 Fiesta it already had 60K miles.
Pat had you thought about get to transmission shop for free diagnostic..
tHE QUICK AND EASY OF IT WAS..
If it slips, it is either the bans or the clutchs, either way we have to drop the trans.. 350.00 then we can troubleshoot it..
And then they "gotcha"! Your truck is up on a lift, your trans is in pieces, and whatcha' gonna' do now? Pay any price they ask!
Before I would let them get me to that point, I'd ask for a quote on an entire rebuild of a good trans. If they can't work with that, I'd find another shop.
My local shop quoted me about $4500 for a "heavy-duty" rebuild. For that kind of money, I'm driving (or towing) to Holtville or Lead Hill, or having one shipped in!
Quality can be "reasonable", but it virtually NEVER comes "cheap"!
Well a person can replace band and clutches fairly cheap with using Red Eagle clutches and kolene steels.
I dont wish to go cheap, just right, that was why I went where I did.. like it helped. Anyhow, IT is between 2 things right now, BTS, or 4R100hd motorcraft.
I am leaning toward the BTS because of the lifetime warranty compared to the 3 year. I dont wish to be in this boat again. The body is going to rott off, and I dont plan on getting rid of her.
