I have a 99 expo and I am replacing the radiator and the lower hose. It is a motorcraft hose and a aftermarket radiator. I installed the lower hose on the radiator already, the hose Iis locked on but can move out a little, My main concern is with this quick connect on the radiator, should I use it or should I cut it off and use a hose clamp?
The main concern I have is that it looks like it would leak, I just don't like the way it fits, so if I go the hose. Clamp route I have to cut the ring off, and what about that insert inside the hose?
Give it a try. Most of us have only had experience with these hoses after several years of being on the truck. It may be designed to be sort of a sloppy fit when new. If it leaks right away just cut the end off and clamp it. I think it will be just fine. Let us know how it works out for you.
I wouldn't personally mess with the factory clamp. I was a PITA to remove so I cut it off. Use a regular hose clamp and if it needs to be changed again in an emergency, it's a no brainer.
