Ok so i have a 1990 F-250 HD xlt lariat and a gear or something broke that goes to the actuator bar (or arm) to the ignition, it is not the ignition switch because i replaced it and the bar still does not move so i am going to replace the steering column soon and im not exactly sure where to do it on this i have not explored it much since i have no garage and its a constant -10 degrees here so if anyone knows of a diagram that will be great also, my heat hardly works at all my heating core is all hooked up as far as i can tell and not sure if it is my thermostat or if the 5-blade clutch fan is just doing its job very well please any info would be appreciated

I am going through the same thing and I'm sure you will be told its the "ignition actuator rod" . its a $20 part but, it seems you can only get it from a dealer now and i have called EVERYONE! They all say its a dealer part. Its also a very common problem.
Cant help with the heater problem but im sure someone else will.
its probably not the rod but the piece inside the steering colum that the rod hooks too i had to put two in an 89 f150 i used to own it was a dealer part.seemd to always happen in the winter it is made out of what i call pot metal and would get brittle in cold weather and break.i drove it for 6 months one time with a small pair of vice grips clamped to the actuator rod wud just turn igniton on and push the rod down with the vice grips to start it.
yeah its not the bar itself 'cause i had to manually engage it for awhile until i rerouted the wiring system to some switches and a push button but if anyone has a diagram of removing the steering column that would be great. either way some pieces were lost (or maybe thrown in a field in frustration) but i probably wont admit to either, so there are MANY 90's ford trucks here that have been wrecked and the ones that arent wrecked are still drivin around i had to help pull a 2011 duramax up a hill cause the roads were too slick for it lol anyways thats besides the point the wiring assembly was reconfigured by myself, and i would just like to replace the whole thing just to make sure i dont mess anything up
As far as the heating problem you are experiencing, is your blower motor running on high? If your blower motor is running adequately and the temp just isn't hot enough, put a thermometer in the vent and see what it shows. It could be a thermostat issue, a heater core partially plugged, inadequate antifreeze (doubtful if your pickup is running in -10 F temps). My 91 HD plow pickup got to that point and turns out it was just the thermostat needing replaced.
well im fairly positive it is my thermostat cause i also have low enginge temperatures so i think it is stuck open $5 dollar part so that wont be so bad
