I think that I'll leave the HPOP plug alone for now. The weather here in PA is getting colder with quite a bit of rain. Working on a truck outside in cold weather is not much fun. When I went out today the truck started very easily with only a small puff of white smoke. This is my first diesel truck. I bought it 4 years ago. Last summer I hung 2 new fenders on it and replaced the wheel arches. I used glue to attach them instead of welding. I painted it the original chocolate brown. I was going to paint the lower part of the body an almond color but ran out of nice weather.
Anyway I have 2 pieces of furniture to finish before Christmas. One is causing me enough of a headache now. I have had to modify the design twice.
I don't blame you for not wanting to work out in the weather in this crap. It's 33* and freezing rain here right now. You need to post some pics of your truck, and the furniture you're working on. Do you make custom furniture or refinish and retouch old stuff (or both)? We have some pretty crazy stuff here where I work and the craftsmanship is just amazing.
I mostly build custom furniture. I built my kitchen from my own maple tree. I got boards 16" wide and without any knots from that tree. If I an figure how to post pictures I'll do so. During the winter of 2010 (Jan.) we had a blizzard here and got 32" of snow in a little more than 24 hrs. The F250 was the only vehicle to get in or out of our road. the road crew plowed our street shut when they came down the hill. Sitting high, good tires and plenty of power got me through. By the way, in the spring I had to replace the upper and lower ball joints to pass inspection here. That was a real treat. Next spring I'll replace all 4 shocks and the rear spring shackles.
Yeah, it is indeed amazing how well these trucks will do in the snow. I am looking forward to getting some here in NE Ohio. We haven't even had any accumulation where I am yet and I am one of the "sick and twisted" people around here that likes the white stuff.
For pictures, there are a couple ways to post them here. You can make an album through this site (but it is picky about the size and the resolution), or you can upload the pictures to any online picture service like Picasa, which works well if you have a Google account, flickr, or photobucket (less picky about the picture size/ res.). after you have the pictures online you simply paste the location of the picture to the thread using the little picture icon (yellow square with gray jagged mountains on it) in the advanced posting editor. Or if you have them elsewhere online, you can right click on them, select "copy image location" and then paste that into the same picture wizard on this site. We are somewhat picture fiends here...
What is the 140V IDM? I have 157,000 on the clock. Before I bought the truck it was used to deliver Amish furniture - mostly open road driving. What type of auto tranny is on these rigs?
Today I checked the cord to the engine block heater. I used the multimeter to see if it would register the number of ohms that would indicate if the wire was good. It registered 0. Next I inspected the wire and saw that the area around the plug was burned. I went to the local hardware and bought 6' of 14/3 and soldered the new wire to the connector close to the block heater and put a new plug on it. I used the continuity tester to see if the connector was good. Next I will replace it on the truck to see how it it works now since it is going down to the teens tonight.
