Hi guys popin in from the OBS Powerstroke side. I've got an 86 F-250 6.9L SC LWB 4sp 4x4, and i'm looking to swap in a ZF 5 spd cause of the O.D.. My question is what do i need to do the swap? I know i need a 4x4 ZF trans and matching flywheel, but what else? Any and all help and info is greatly appreciated, thankyou.
It has been done a lot, on this very page there is a couple ongoing threads for it.
You will have to decide what type of flywheel you want to use, and I think you will need the crossmember from the donor too.
like star said there's 2 flywheel options. single mass and dual mass. the dual mass is the stock clutch system. but more expensive than single mass. if you convert to single mass. id use the south bend setup. seems pretty solid.
The transfer case from the 4sd will bolt to the ZF. When I put the ZF in my 85, all I used was the ZF and the crossmember. I used the 208 case that was behind the 4sd. The ZF and the T19 with the transfer case adapter were close enough to the same lenght that the driveshafts worked. I did however use a SMF conversion for a 7.3 IDI because I couldn't find the right clutch and pressure plate for the 6.9 that would fit the input shaft of the ZF.
