I just got in the bulbs in the mail for my 2005 F250. I order new brake lights, front signal lights and dome lights. The dome lights were a straight swap, and are so much better. But I swapped in the brake bulbs and the front signal bulbs and now I have the infamous "fast flash" now I was doing some searching on here and I found a post about just swapping the flasher relay cost a guy his transmission because the low light voltage tricked his ECU that the brakes where always on, he associated his transmission going out on his LED signal bulbs?? Not doubting his word, it just does not sound right?? Has anyone else experienced this?
I just wanted to keep this simple and replace the flasher on the truck. Can anyone else shed some light on this? I will do resistors if I have to, but I am not sure how many OHMS I need?
Also if I can just replace the flasher relay, can anyone share a brand/part number of a relay that works with LEDs?
not on new stuff. The blinking is all controlled by the GEM or the SJB.
I don't know about Fords, but on Dodges you can have the dealer turn the fast flash off. It is quite a common problem when dealing with cab & chassis pickups that end up with a flatbed... everyone is putting LEDs in those now.
not sure if the electronics are the same on the diesels but over on powerstoke forum they are saying up to 2007 has the flasher relay.
I guess I am asking more along the lines of is the truth about the transmission true at all? Does the ECU get its signal from the brake light bulbs to tell the transmission what to do? I plan on keeping this truck for a LONG time and the last thing I want to do is mess it up with a stupid light bulb lol.
In all honestly I switched out the bulbs because LED runs so much colder. I do plan on keeping this truck forever and after a while the bulb holders start to fall apart from the heat. On my wifes car after 8 years of running LEDs from 2 weeks after buying it the bulb holders look like new. The bulb holders on my 05' f250 are already drying out and have heat cracks in them.

Maybe on a 2008 but not on anything earlier.
The first diagram below shows the flasher relay diagram from the 2006 service manual. It appears to be in an Auxiliary Relay Box, which are usually under the hood around the Power Distribution Box.
As far as brakes and transmission controls, you can see the Brake Pedal Position switch in the second diagram. It is a two pole switch. One pole sends a brake signal to various modules, including the PCM. The other pole powers the brake lights and the brake controller signal wire.
