Well, as some have seen on another thread, I got the "Diesel Exhaust System Failure" Speed limited in XX miles the other day...
After filling the DEF tank, battery disconnects and running the truck some the message was still there like a a giant middle finger in my face when I had to get to work this morning. I saddled up the idea that I do have to take it to Ford and gently asked the ol' Lady to follow me to the dealership. The message glowed the entire way there to remind me and counted down the miles till I was officially hosed.
Once there, I handed the keys over and we walked out to the truck. He jumped in, started it and asked me "What Code?" For the life of us, we couldn't figure out how it had cleared itself now. I asked them to still hook it up and see what happened. Well, the code may have stopped, but the DEF pump had still gone out! So, first warranty replacment is now complete.
I figured I would share since some folks had said they'd seen this message before and it went away on its own. I guess its the new version of when CEL's used to be on soo much they burned out!
I still get a CEL every few days. Dealership and ford corporate have both determined its DEF system related. Nothing is wrong tho. Once the light goes out the code runs away. I just happened to drive by the dealership when it was on and they had the tech pull out the reader and come to the service tunnel to get the code right than. A week later of going back and forth to ford they determined its just a sensor or something that it taking an extra second or 2 to reply or come on and shouldnt worry about it. That system has a 100k warranty on it so I just ignore the light now.
