oil cooler change help

I am gonna do a coolant flush when I get back home. Today the temps were running around 10 deg apart. I only hit 190 once for around a minute, but the oil was at 199. If these temps do not come down after a thorough cooling system cleaning, I'm thinking seriously about changing the cooler.

Are there instructions anywhere on how to change only the oil cooler? Are there other components that should be changed along with it? I have no freakin' idea how to do it. I believe I m capable of doing it..just don't have any idea on what needs to come off, or in what order it needs to be done.

It being a 2003, it has the round EGR cooler, so I m thinking I'm good there. Presently, the truck starts great, no white smoke in the morning and runs strong. I m thinking the only other real mod I would like to do for reliability would be either the "BB" or the "blue spring" for fuel pressure.

Any links for changing out an oil cooler would be greatly appreciated. I sure don't want to start something I cannot finish, especially when this is our lone (4 wheeled) vehicle.

Thanks,eh?

I saw it at 15 deg apart for a brief period. It's been hard to get the water to 190 with the cold weather.

We will see what happens after the cleaning of the cooling system.

I would do just that. No need to replace coolers yet if you're just seeing 15 degree spread for brief moments. Especially when towing.

It finally got warm enough today for the wct to hit 190 for a half hour or so. WOT got up to 202 for a few miles, then dipped back to 199. This is cruising at 70 mph without towing.

it shouldnt matter the time of year that thermistate should hold the temp at 190* or higher if not it maybe stuck open alittle

If it doesnt you may want to get a new one in it anyless than 190* and your fuel milage may suffer

Draboo if i were you i would just do a distilled water flush and not use a chemical cleaner. Sometimes they break stuff lose and help clog the oil cooler some , your temps aren't bad so just flush with water and new coolant. JMHO
