Oil Cooler Extenion

I would like to run an idea past you techs. Just had my head gaskets, oil cooler, and EGR cooler replaced (not deleted yet). Before that was done, I was towing a 8000 lbs boat I got my EOT to 222 Deg. and the ECT stayed at 190 Deg. Haven't pulled the boat since, but now without towing they stay within 5 deg of each other, before it was 15 deg. I'm about to put an Amsoil oil bypass filter in and wondered if I should consider putting in a cooler inline with cooler bypass capabilities (reroute around the cooler in the winter)? Is it over kill or will I not have enough flow to make this work?
Thanks for your opinions.

Even with an added cooler, it will not help out the EGR cooler if the original oil cooler plugs again. If the OEM oil cooler does not plug, then you really do not need the added cooler.

Please do yourself a favor and do a search here about the bypass oil filter. Many here have tried them and report no statistically significant changes in the oil analysis results. The system will not allow you to extend your service intervals. The 6.0 shears the oil viscosity beginning with the first mile after your oil change. By 5000 miles it starts to look like 30 weight.

Regards

Thanks for the quick replies! Looking MORE closely at the EGR delete I should of did it. The oil cooler got plugged I believe on the coolant side that caused my problem. I found no damage to the EGR but replaced it anyway. I see the delete in my future (Sinister delete looks good) . Hope this won't give me a oil cooler problem again. As for the oil bypass I was going to use it to just keep the oil as clean as possible for the injectors not as an oil extender. I too still believe in proper (if not early) fluid interval changes as weather permits (I do them in my driveway before winter set in).

EGR cooler delete will not prevent oil cooler failures at all. Installing a coolant filter will increase your odds however.

Thanks for all the replies and advice. 69cj, I did add a Dieselsite coolant filter about 2 months before I had the work done, but the dammage was already done. I didn't really notice the problem until I pulled my boat. I'm cosidering the ccv mod and going to do the EGR delete at the next oppertunity.

Thanks again,
Dave
