I guess it is welcome to the 6.0 owners club. I have a 2004 F350 King Ranch Dually purchased new in CA, April 2004. It has 55K miles and has had its share of issues with the turbo boost hose/clamp assembly in the past. Dealership de-tuned the boost and put on new blue hose/clamps and seems to have fixed the problem. Lost a bunch of performance, but live with it since we use it for towing a 3 horse trailer and did not want to end up broken down on the I5 "Grapevine" for a 3rd time.
The problem now is the EGR valve (I think). The "Check Engine" light is lit and there is white smoke pouring out the tailpipe. Engine oil seems fine, no foam, etc. but the coolant has disappeared. Put 2 gallons in yesterday and ran it for a few minutes but the belching white smoke got worse. I heard that there may be a problem with the EGR "cooler" and there is an EGR valve /EGR oil cooler delete kit that will fix the problem. The truck is well past warranty and is in otherwise very good shape.
Any suggestions on a fix to ensure this beast stays running. It is my wife's primary driver and I want to keep her happy! Thanks in advance for some guidance here!
Thanks for the input.. One more question...If I install the new cooler, do I need to replace the EGR valve itself? Pretty sure it is not the problem here...Thanks again!

How can I find out when my engine was built? There is a differennt cooler for pre 9/22/03 and post 9/22/03 6.0 engines. I did a VIN# search but it does not say anything about the engine. Can I tell by the serial #??
Thanks! I'll check it out as it makes a difference on the replacement EGR cooler I need!! I want to make sure I get the right one first time out of the box...
If your going Bulletproof, just give them your Vin..... theyll hook you up

If you have a 2003, you should have a round style cooler. If you have a 2005 or newer, you have a square style cooler. If you have a 2004 model, most 2004's have the square cooler, but a small percentage were produced with the 2003 round version. The easiest way to tell? Check your VIN code.
A sample VIN code is: 1FTRW21P24EB10150. In the middle of the VIN code, you see the digits "4EB". The 4 means that it was a 2004 model year. The "E" denotes which production plant built your truck. In this case, E is for Kentucky. Lastly, the "B" is the start of the sequence number (the last 6 digits of the VIN). Some early 2004 models have a "4EA" code. The "A" denotes the early build and most likely is a round-style cooler. The "B", "C", "D" or more all denote later model 2004 builds with square style EGR coolers.
