block heater plug burning HOT while plugged in

2003 7.3. Had the block heater cord plugged in for about 5 hours this morning (about 35 degrees last night). Used a 100 foot light-medium duty ext cord. The plug on the truck side got hot enough it could burn my hand. I should mention the plug is not oem. The truck is newly owned by my friend - don't have any history on it. Any thoughts?

Check for cuts in the cord or if its plugged in all the way by the oil filter. Mine did that and I had cuts in the wire.

That plug doesn't look heavy enough to handle the load. If it is too small it will overheat and melt.

HAHA it looks like someone cut the plug off some christmas tree lights . Thanks I will check no cuts and properly plugged in by the oil filter. I tried talking him into the marine fixed plug mod the first time I saw it. Maybe he will consider it now.

i would put some 10ga or bigger on it, those small wires will burn up your truck.

That cord end looks kludged together. You also should be using a heavier extension cord. I would replace that block heater cord ASAP.
