Hey fellas, could someone please tell me how to do a self diagnostic test on my '96 Eddie Bauer? I did a search & a lot about the codes but nothing on how to do the actual test. I got a code reader for my '89 but my '96 is a OBD-II, I think. I just recently got the truck & the EGR tube was broke, so I fixed it. The CEL, ABS, & BRAKE lights are all still on. Every once in a while the truck will buck real hard while going down the road. It's a 4x4 302cid with 194,000 miles.
The OBDII system uses a code reader, I have never heard of a way to self test those.. You might check your local auto parts stores, most of them will read the codes for free..
If you go that route have them tell you what the codes are, some of them use a writers license when interpentating the codes.
I have the BR-3 shown, I have not needed the latter model BR-CAN yet but will buy one without hesitation when I do. Might even do so before I actually need it have it on hand.
Not a big deal yea as the BR-3 works for models as new as my wife's "05" Impala for example.
