So I popped a CEL on my truck this morning. I've been reading through the posts on here and haven't found anything to show how to pull the codes on my '96. The following link shows up to a '95;
My book says that on the '96 you have to have the Ford diagnostic tool called the New Generation STAR. Does the paperclip trick work on the '96 specifically, or will I screw up my computer trying it?
i couldn't tell you for sure but i would very carefully go by the book if i were you. and thanks for the link i am going to try their method for clearing the memory.
Your bronco has OBD II, the older one's were EECIV. Easier to get codes w/OBD II but you need a scanner or code reader,most parts stores will do this for free.
i bought one off of Ebay for 20 bucks shipping and all. if you can't wait a week or two for it i bet you can get one for less than 100. in the meantime if you can get it to auto zone they will test i for you. i hope this helps.
You can pick up an Actron 9135 on Ebay for less than $100 . It will read all your '96 Bronco OBDII codes, and it's made in the USA too. It'll read the codes and you can reset the system as well to clear the CEL. The 9135 is also available at just about any autoparts store if you don't like Ebay but it'll run you about $150 in the stores.
That's what teh parts store guys used and theirs ran $159.00. It'd probably be a good thing to get my hands on though. Is this what you were saying would diagnose which sensor it was exactly? With it saying "bank 1" was that meaning one of the sensors already?
