I need a complete VIN decoder. Can someone here give me more detailed code information? I am looking for type of rear differential, Is is a Dana or 14 bolts. Gear ratio, locker or open,
K = Class 3, 10,001-14,000 lbs. Gross Vehicle Weight Rating.
F38 = F350 4WD Cab & Chassis.
G = 7.5L (460) with EFI
9 = Check Digit, FoMoCo use only.
M = 1991.
K = Kansas City MO Assembly Plant.
A25107 = 1991 Numerical Sequence of Assembly.
** The rear axle is prolly the Sterling 10.25, but to be sure, post the AXLE code / If the AXLE code begins w/a letter: Limited Slip / If w/a number: No Limited Slip.
btw: I asked a moderator to move this thread to the 1987/96 forum, cuz this is the 2009 + F150 forum.
Incidentally, door sticker and tag missing. I am new to forums as I stated and I am a little confused. The TOS stated that this was a family friendly site. Was the comment by
Senior User Bankrupter really necessary?
I was a Ford mechanic for 15 years and have been a bumper to bumper tech for 30. As a dealership mechanic and as a warranty claims adjudicator for the last five years, I was able to access detailed information on the VIN which did include gear ratios and type of differential. What you can gleen from the internet search of a VIN is very limited. There is a great deal more info available on a VIN if you can get it. I was hoping some of you might have that ability.
I'll contact the Ford dealership where I live now and see what they can give me.
I appreciate the positive responses and the help on pointing me to the right forum.

I am a little confused. What did he say exactly that isn't family friendly? A remark about how he was concerned that you wouldn't be able to find your thread after it was moved?
You have to have thicker skin when dealing with people on the internet. Without tone of voice, it's very easy to misunderstand someone's intent. Someone might think their remark is funny or sarcastic but without hearing their voice we don't know that. If there are two ways to interpret something, always assume they didn't mean it in a derogatory way.

I have never heard of that ability. I don't doubt you, but if it's true, then Ford must have some kind of database online that contains all the additional information about a vehicle that the VIN itself doesn't reveal. It sure would make people's lives easier if that ability was publicly available but I don't blame Ford for not doing so. If you reach a dead end we can help ID the axles with a pic or two, the tag bolted to the cover, or the Dana BOM (if it's a Dana axle) stamped or printed on the axle or sticker.

I decoded your entire VIN in post #3 using the exact same resource the dealers use, the Ford Truck Parts Catalog.
There is nothing else that can be gleened from it, unless you know 'someone' at FoMoCo and then...only...if the info is still available for a 20 year old truck.
The AXLE code has never been listed within the VIN. It's listed separately on the Rating Plate (1948/60), Warranty Plate (1961/80), Certification Label (1981 to date).
Since 11/04/2006, I've decoded over 800 VIN's, Rating/Warranty Plates, Certification Labels for FTE members...because FTE and other online VIN decoders aren't worth two cents, have multiple errors and omissions.
In addition, VIN's do not list the Wheelbase, have no codes for the: Color/Paint, Model, Body, Trim, Trans, Mouldings, Stripes, Springs, District Sales Offices that vehicles are ordered from, because all these codes are listed separately.
I was a Ford partsman for 35 years (1962/97), owned 83 FoMoCo vehicles, been in the old car hobby since 1956, have over 3,000 books on auto history, so I usually know what the heck I'm speaking of.
I've never seen Ford axle codes that look anything like this. Even if they are real axle codes, it doesn't help the OP figure out what model the axle is, what the gear ratio is, or whether it has a limited slip or open carrier.

The D in the front axle code is a Dana axle. The S in the rear axle code is Sterling.
All Ford axle codes that I've seen look like this, and I do this for a living.
And, as I already posted, it's a Sterling 10.25 open diff, 4.10 gears
