Excursion question
2011 Expedition Specifications
18.6 cu ft of capacity behind standard rear seat...42.6 cu ft behind EL rear seat. quite a large difference. lenght wise, the EL is 15" longer overall, but it gives you 18" more rear capacity because they tweaked the door sizes and fender area
Ford killed the X in 2005, but recognized that there was still a market for a big SUV. So they gave us something back in 2007. There will always be a market for a huge SUV IMO. I just hope that Ford can see that and keep it around. I'm not a fan of the Suburban, but I will go there if needed

Once you hit 3 kids, 99% of the SUV's don't cut the mustard.
I've got 4 kids and the EL is the only SUV I've owned that will comfortably fit us and all the crap the kids drag with them. I thought when they got older it would get better, but things like Girl Scouts and sports will keep my family in a huge SUV for years to come.
EL seems to be going the way of the Dodo. The standard Expy will be around for ??? yrs still. But the EL has been treated like a redheaded stepchild by Ford. Much like the Excursion was. Many people have never even heard of the EL. They see them, but don't know what it is
Ford already did this with the Minivan. So did Chevy. Ford is shifting focus to smaller cars and letting the people like me and y'all look elsewhere for a high occupancy vehicle. Real shame though, because the comparable Chevy/GM version of my current vehicle is almost $10k more to purchase
edit: I was pricing out a 2012 Expy today. I paid $38k for my current one brand new. The 2012 version with exactly same options (as close as can be achieved anyways) prices out at $51,300. The Suburban equivalent was $55k!

I hear you about the prices of the Suburban vs the EL! I've ridden in rental Suburbans a few times over the past few years the GMT900s have been out and I am just no impressed with it all. It is small and cramped and doesn't even ride all that great relative to our Excursions. I've ridden in an EL once and felt it offered the superior packaging. I believe MotorTrend and Edmunds have done comparos of the current generation of Suburban and Expedition and in both tests, the Expedition came out on top. Even the 5.4 is stronger than the 5.3 and no one ever complains about that engine lacking power like people have with the 5.4. MotorTrend also did a comparison against the Armada and the Sequoia and the Tahoe and the Expedition were sitting in the back of the pack. If I remember correctly, the Sequoia took first, Armada second, Expedition third and the Tahoe last. The imports SUVs can't touch the domestics when it comes to sales however.
