Excursion question
Excursion question
Hello all, I am a proud Ford fan and own many Ford models. Currently own a 98 expedition and very proud of it. Does anyone know why Ford ended the Excursions in 05. I mean from what i see on some of these threads, if they are that damn good, how or why did they stop making them. Sure i would like to own one but hate the gas bill that would come with it.

Nuff said... Although now I bet they are kicking themselves because some of these trucks are selling for damn near what they first went for. Okay maybe not that much but the resale has out done the competition by far. That is all I have to say. Beer me.

Real reason it did not outsell suburban was due to consumer information on the vehicle, it takes time for trends to change. Diesel was just beginning to become mainstream in the earlier days of the Ford Excursion. As time went on, more and more SUV drivers were switching to diesel trucks at a previously unseen rate. The GM suburban has always been the large SUV of choice, in which brand loyalty plays a considerable part. The true demise of the excursion was the 6.0L version diesel, just as people began to learn of the superiority of the 7.3 powerstroke excursion compared to its GM counterpart. Once Ford swithched motors from 7.3L to the 6.0L the stage was set for the excursion's demise. Look or ask around today, NOTHING is more desirable than a Ford Excursion 4wd Limited w/7.3L diesel engine. Look at how at its size gets upwards of 22-24mpg on hwy as compared to the plethora of flimsy economyh suv's such as the import or domestic options which do not get better gas mileage even at half the weight/power/safety/towing/comfort/utility

The greenie movement affected the Ex too even though the diesel has great fuel economy. I don't think the 6.0 killed the Ex, the trucks were topping the $50K range when lesser SUVs were in the $30K range.
The Excursion just DIDN'T SELL enough to continue taking a spot on the Super Duty assembly line.
Agreed, however the F250 was and still is a bigger seller due to fleet sales, the Ex is a people hauler for families. It was all about numbers, they needed assembly line space for the trucks in the KY plant. Also, the 06 F250 was changed, there was no plan even a couple of years earlier to redesign the Ex.

IMO the pickups offered the versatility that the Ex did not. I think there were a number of reasons for the low sales of the Ex and unfortunately Ford will never make an SUV quite like it ever again.
F-250 Super Chief + Excursion = ?
The Excursion is a great design but it didn't change much in the form of body and design till they put it back out in 2011. Even then it didn't change much. I would love it if the Ford design team would make the the F-250 Super Chief into an Excursion.
My dad and I have our eyes the F-250 Super Chief and cant wait till it goes on sale..

On a different note, another reason why the plug was pulled on the Excursion was because every one they built was one less Super Duty that sold much quicker and did not languish on a dealership lot for months.

This thread that I started about two and a half years ago shows the sales breakdown by year for the Excursion.
