New to the forum. ive done research but can't figure this one out. i have the 5.4 4x4 with 127xxx miles. This clunk i feel seems to be from the rear end. Its almost like i hit a small pothole in the road. its not consistent. it does it whenever it feels like it. it does it in 2 and 4 wheel drive as well. it seems to act up bad when im cruising at a constant speed or when i let off the gas then reapply. I've heard ford has *****ty torque converters... i don't know if thats the problem. i think it might be the rear end, a u joint on the drive shaft, or a bad wheel bearing? any help is much appreciated!
Pull the driveshaft, check the u-joints and while you are at it check the input flange on the rear diff make sure it isn't loose. If it is real loose it should be obvious because it will have ruined the seal and it would be leaking alxe fluid everywhere
I just checked the u joints along the driveshaft yesterday.... wasn't that. Whats this about a pinion bearing and where is that located?? my next check is wheel bearings. Another note, its doing it REAL bad in 4x4 and is almost non-existent in 2 wheel drive....
