The factory video rear-view for the backup camera is simple composite video in... if you get one of the aftermarkets, it shouldn't be a major challenge.
Couldn't you accomplish the same thing with a properly placed/aimed mirror?
Out 07 expy has a conversion mirror in the overhead console to let the driver view the whole rear seating area. Works great, and simple and factory installed.
There are plenty of mirrors built for baby purposes... I see them all the time. Google baby car mirror or similar and you should find plenty of resources.
A $10 mirror seems a *lot* easier than a camera, video monitor, cabling, power, etc.!
It is a conversation mirror. A convex mirror that folds down from the overhead console so the front seat passengers can see the rear seat passengers without turning around. Our 03 expedition had one also I do believe.
I bought this truck when my daughter was 13 months and still facing backwards... got a mirror at BRU for a mere $13.99 to contact to that huge-a$$ headrest in the backseat and problem solved...
It is not a cheap investment and has no resale value - especially when you can look in the rearview and get the same view for less than $15.
I realize looking 6" up from the screen location can be taxing but you'll be okay.
yeah... 6hrs+ of research and already I'm into cabling, cams, lcds's which = BIG BUCKS! If it was a plug and play for less than $100 I'd bite... think I'll do the mirror ans use the cash for the TBC add on
What about the rear backup cameras you can buy from the auto parts stores and mount the camera around the rear light or above the rear window and the monitor on the dash they are about a buck to a buck and a half up here in canuckland.
