How many miles are on the truck? Are all routine maintanence things up to date? Has anything been done to the truck that may have affected the way it operates? What brand of plugs and wires were installed?
The truck has 170,000km on it. All maintenance is up to date, running all synthetic oils and lubes. Plugs and wires are Motorcraft and are one year old. I haven't chipped it yet but that is on my mind...
Let me guess, intermitant misfire on cyl 3 and misfire occured within the first 1000 rpms . If so put a new ignition coil on it. But typically it will trip the check engine light. Good luck with the problem.

It is an intermitant missfire on cyl three but it happens at about 3000 rpm. I'll get a new coil for it too.
Thanks for the help with the problem, this is by far the best forum I've been on!
So I replaced the coil and checked the plug wires at the plugs. It still misses but less often. Thinking it might be the plug wire from hell that I can't get my hand anywhere near! Any ideas on how to get at this bloody thing?
Still debating if I'm going to replace the MAF sensor on Tuesday when it arrives...any ideas?
I was told by a tech in my city that the MAF can cause the problem and can also effect the fuel consumption. Not sure if he was just looking for work or not...
Ok, so I had new plug wires installed today and it's running much better. The shop I went to ran their scanner on it for over an hour and never saw a miss. Apparently the old plug wires (installed at the Ford Dealer) weren't the correct ones and were not installed in the looms which I was told can cause an issue.
Hopefully all will be well and I won't replace the MAF for now.
