I just bought an immaculate 93 f250xlt 7.3L IDI auto. Coming from a 93 6.5Turbo, its no comparison. The 7.3 is hands down the king. I have a question for you who are currently "stopping" your cavitation issues. I have bought the vc-8 sca from ford but wasn't sure what brand of antifreeze to buy. I know I am supposed to used a low silicate ethyl glycol based antifreeze, but all I found at the auto parts store was either low silicate w/sca already added, or no silicate. What bands of antifreeze have you guys been using? I also was unsure about how to use the coolant test strips. Do you know when to add sca from the ph level? I appreciate your feedback!
1. extended life coolant (Cat ELC or John deere cool gard II)
2. SCA Precharged coolant (prestone heavy duty)
3. old green coolant with coolant additive
then there different ways to add sca's
A. liquid additive in a bottle
B. coolant filter added to the coolant system with a cake of dry additive that wears away as you drive.
with type 2 and 3 need to be checked when you change the oil with coolant strips. the strips will tell you how much to add.
with type 1 they rely on coolant samples sent off at certain intervals (mile/hours) and then add they're additives.
1. extended life coolant (Cat ELC or John deere cool gard II)
your right.
however only if your engine was built after 2/2/99 (according to both international and ford.)
the last idi engine was built in '94 of course.

yes it (fleetcharge) is Freddy.
you'll want 4 gallons, and then hit up your local grocery store for 4 gallons of distilled water.mix your coolant and water 50/50 and then pour in,once you flush and drain the coolant system.
if you can afford it,now would be a good time to grab both upper and lower hoses along with a new 13 lb cap while at napa getting your coolant.
you will not add any additives at this time no.however, you must monitor them via easy to use test strips (every other oil change is plenty.very, very simple.)

you can use napa's sca additive for replenishment.
(based on my research, not only is penray's "pencool" [which is what feetcharge is charged with] and "napa kool" the same stuff, but even the other dca4 can be tested via same strips, and mixed.turns out when these additives came out,it was all a bunch of marketing farce about them not being compatible and sadly it's still told as fact today.)
