My shifter was getting sloppy Scott and would randomly not start. Tighteneing those screws solved my issue. If you need help let me know and maybe we can get something figured out.
I'm pretty sure the '02 had the same two screws under the dash.
If it's your DTR sensor, get a used one for like $15-20 on ebay (used). There's a seller there that has a great reputation (just look at the number of items sold, and rating), and I got mine for $20 after shipping. It was used, but worked perfectly on my late '99 F250 I had.
Heck, now I'm thinking I might buy one just to have as a spare for my two Ex's.

I had the same issue. I shut the truck off once in a drive-thru and she didn't want to restart. Once I got up under the dash and tightened those bolts.... problem solved. Here's a pic I took when I did mine:

These were very loose. I did retighten them which helped a great deal with the slop on the shifter.
The problem actually was the nut on the signal wire from the ignition to the starter solenoid walked off and the wire simply fell off. Doesn't get much easier than that! I found it when I jumped the solenoid. I then retightened it and the solenoid cap cracked DOH!
I took the starter to the auto parts store and they actually warrantied it! It's like 30 degrees where I am and the truck is turning over slowly on startup. I understand this is because it's cold but it's turning over slower than it should. Could this be a bad starter rebuild? Do batteries go bad over time if they are really old?
