I recently bought some reproduction weatherstriping that mounts around the door opening on the cab of my '74 F250. The worn and tattered stuff that is there is held by what appears to be silicone. Will I have to re-apply silicone with the new stuff, or will it stay in place like weatherstriping I've seen on other vehicles?
Odds are the silicone was applied by a past owner. The weather striping style that clips on a pinch weld typically has a tooth that locks it on. However after a few times taking it off, that tooth gets bent or broke so you slap it back on with some glue.
If you look down the channel of your weather stripping, you should see one angled piece inside of the U-channel. That's what clamps it to the pinch weld. If you have a smooth U-channel, you will probably need some weather stripping adhesive.
