Put'n together a 71 c/s. Just installed 351M/4sp from 390/c4. A few glitches, not too bad. Mostly me being dumb. My question is: I need door weather strip. NPD and LMC have some that mount on the door. Mine is mounted on the cab. Anyone know where to get my style or would it be difficult to change to the door mounted type? I tried the search, but got adds for house weather strip. Any help........and all that. thanks...........jim
I bought the LMC set a few years ago. They said it was an exact duplicate but the profile is different than my original weatherstrip. Plus it's stiffer and looks thicker, I was afraid the doors would never close again without slamming. That's why it's still sitting in the garage getting old. It does glue to the cab though, not the door.
I helped my son install some door weather stripping on his 65 chevy several years ago....the door was a little hard to shut at first, but after a few days...I guess you might say, it adjusted itself...I need some new stripping for my 71 ford custom, at least on the drivers side...seems you have to have a special glue for it....as I recall...!
Oh the wonderful world of ebay! Just seach for 1967-1972 ford truck on ebaymotors and there are like 5 auctions for the door weatherstrip somewhere around like 24 or 28 bucks! JCWhitney sells it also in a complete kit for the entire cab (doors windows windshield back glass wing vents) for 199.99. I don't know about the quality though.
Thesprocket26.....I was thinking that I saw some door molding like I needed in a J.C. Whitney book for less that $20....of course, I was wrong one time before..lol...and I only need molding for the driver side door.....hmmmmmmm.....!
The complete weather strip kit for these trucks is $200. The individual pieces are less but I still think ebay is the cheapest. Now JCW also sells door mouldings but I think they are for the later years 80-86. What type of glue to you use to install weatherstrip? I used some can the airport I work at confiscated and it worked hella! The only down side it had a yellow tint and where I used too much it showed on black paint.
nomadic-- I bought a set of the jc whitney door seals and the quality was not good!
That was 5 years ago, I can't speak for today though. The set I bought started to split a couple of months after install and eventually fell apart.
I use regular old contact cement for install.
3M weatherstrip adhesive, available in yellow and black at your local parts store. Use some sandpaper and then brake cleaner on the seal surface where the adhesive goes. Use some windex and then alcohol on the body surface where the adhesive goes. I have heard bad things about some of the cheap weatherstripping not working well.
These people have fixed my problems every time. They manfc all types weatherstripping AND "anti-rattle kits".

I haven't done this yet on my F100, but I have done it on other vehicles.
Use 3M Weatherstrip Adhesive, and follow the directions on it. Buy some 3M Adhesive Cleaner (available at some parts stores, and definitely at your local professional auto paint store) and use it to wipe down the weatherstrip and the surface to which it will be glued. Also, you need some high-quality masking tape (again, 3M) to hold the weatherstrip on until the glue dries.
On long pieces, like around the door openings, just do a foot or two at a time. Rely on the tape to hold it as you glue the next section.
I bought some "window fuzzies" or "dew wipes" for my Bronco II from JCWhitney that were very good quality. I think when I buy weatherstrip for the F100, I'll probably give them a try.
