I purchased a set of door skins so I could repair my doors, but am disappointed. I expected sheet metal that looked like the sheet metal on my doors. Does anyone have any experience with the fitting of new door skins. These skins are the lower half panel, but the radius and depth of form do not even come close to the original panel. Is there a better place to get replacement panels. I am concerned that the added bending and forming of this sheet metal will make the finished door look terrible.
This is the second time I have had this kind of problem with the body parts from this source. I am not sure if I can name the company here. Last time I gave up on the cab mounts and purchased a reproduction type cab mount that fit perfect and looks original. Do I need to do the same this time. If so who sells replacement panels that match the original form of the door?
One of the two doors i have, I had sand blasted, but they warped the outer door skin. I was hoping to just replace with a new un warped door skin. Now it appears i would be better off beating the heck out of the original door skin and hiding the damage with bondo, Dam!
I finally got my extra cab restored and painted. Only let the sandblaster do the underside and floor to get any rust removed, then sanded the rest of the paint off. Welded in a bunch of new metal, fixed a bunch of small dents and painted it. Now I am geeked to get the extra doors finished so I can swap out the rusted out cab on my truck. The 2x4 spacers and shims are running out of metal to hold the cab up and in place.

What's the name of the company you got the replacement sheet metal from? Everyone here lists there sources so I don't think its prohibited it also helps us to learn who to stay away from and who to go with when buying parts for our trucks by the way like the truck is that stock height?
The truck is stock height, although the fire department that originally owned the chassis had it beefed up for the brush fire aparatus, which makes it a very rough ride. The best ride i had with it was when i took a ton of scrap steel to the recycler, i about crapped my paints when i pulled on the scale, because the tires were not rated for that much weight. I have a bunch of pictures in a gallery with the title 71 4x4 hiboy, and more pictures in my garage. I love driving it and using for hauling stuff, it is my work truck, so all the projects i do are working around it being a driver. So i usually do a bunch of work in advance on extra components so i can limit down time. My parts are from several project trucks i bought on e-bay, which worked out good in the end, because the scrap steel got me all my invested money back plus i have all the pieces i needed. One problem I have had though is glass, i started with two full sets of windshield and back glass, but all the moving and garage moves have resulted in all that glass being broken one at a time. i no longer have any windshield or back glass to fit the new cab with.
The cab mounts i did not use were from LMC and the door skins I just bought from LMC, but have a sticker saying they are from Tabco. Not happy about the fit up at all.
The cab mounts i eventually used were reproductions from dennis Carpenter, they fit really nice and look original, but cost 3 times as much, It was worth it though.
i bought the LMC cab mounts and floor pans the floor pans were an alright fit i was satisfied with them. but the cab mounts i wasn't thrilled about i used them anyways but the more i think about it i wish i havent they seemed flimsy and poor fitment in my opinion. i also got the front full fenders, stone deflector, lower door skins, rear cab corners and center cab supports i havent mounted the fenders yet but took them out and they seemed decent just hope they look good when i put them on. the rest of the parts were alright fitment was ok when i held them up ran out of nice weather to install the rest will have to wait until spring now. can you post some pics of the dennis carpenter cab mounts i havent seen any pics of them yet but heard they were nice. next time i need sheet metal i plan on buying from DC. you could always go to the junk yard and try finding some glass for your truck or craigslist ebay is another source they will be the cheapest unless you want to buy new i havent priced it but it may be pricey
I wasn't very happy with the patch panel stuff either. I try in this order whenever possible now with sheetmetal repairs: 1. original metal cut off another truck; 2. I bought a sheet of primered galvanized 16 ga steel and hand form whatever I can; 3. aftermarket patch panels realizing that they'll probably need almost as much work to make them fit as if I hammerred it out of flat steel.
IMO, the contour lines on exterior sheetmetal repro stampings aren't as crisp as they should be. However, I'm just glad there are companies that even offer repro steel.
I have had troubles with LMC cab mounts, and all type of rubber seals cracking. Now last week noticed door window out side wipe seal is now cracking. The cab donut seal for gas tank filler neck cracked and leaked rain water into the cab after 3 yrs. Now 4 yrs the wind seals cracking and breaking off. The heater box flaps door foam rubber was to small. The one thing that has not fallen apart yet is the cab carpeting. So I've ordered from DC, NPD & Mac. for much better quality and fit when ever I can.. I installed LMC cab mount that lasted 3 yrs. But my truck did have a camper on it for a while..
