new 390fe smoking
howdy, having a problem with my fresh 390fe rebuild. running great,strong. only problem is smoking. good compression, no oil fouling. carb is good(edelbrock1405) with fpr. timing perf(15degrees plus 13or so vac advance) igniton is hot good compression, how long does it take for rings to seat? is it normal for fresh rebuild to smoke a bit~ any thoughts?

Where is it smoking from? IE valve cover or tailpipe. I have never had a fresh engine smoke from anywhere. If exhaust did your old engine burn oil? What color smoke? White is water, black is fuel, grey is oil. If oil and your old engine burned oil try unhooking the exhaust and see if it still smokes. Maybe your exhaust is full of oil from the old engine. Did you rebuild it or a machine shop? If you have you ever rebuilt an engine before? I am guessing no due to the question. If a shop did it drive it down to them.
