You are suppose to put the seafoam in the oil, run a short time then change. For burning oil, there is no cheap fix. Either you have worn/broken rings or valve guide seat that are bad

Seafoam is not good in old engines. I cleans TOO good. Is the smoke white or blue? That will tell you where the problem lies. Rings or Valve seals.

i see it as a gamble, if you dont have any major wear on your motor its great, with my 30,xxx rebuilt I6 after i ran it through it monthly for 3 months it runs like a champ! but i've heard of it breaking up peices of carbon big enough to cause serious issues.... IE need immediate rebuild

dunno how true those stories are, they are stories afterall... but none the less i've heard of it and wouldent be suprised if someone else here has (hint for one of the good-ole-boy mechanics to chime in!!)

I've used it in my gas tank and in my intake, and never had problems. But, considering the age of our trucks, and the quality of oil back in the early 80's, I wouldn't use Seafoam inside the engine. You could have cleaned some sludge that was stopping oil from entering the combustion chamber.

A couple of months back a guy posted the same problem, with around the same year model of your truck, but I think it was a 460. He put it in the oil, then it constantly smoked.
