f 350 suspension problems
f 350 suspension problems
Hey guys, I am new to the site and would like to thank all of you guys for helping me in my decision to buy the truck I currently have. I received a lot of valuable information that helped me make my final decision. Not for my question.
I have a 1999 f 350 SRW w/ 7.3L PSD. I have noticed that the truck is leaning 1" on the driver side. The difference is the same all on both front and back wheels. What could cause this problem? Are my shocks bad, the leaf springs bad? I just got the truck and I want it to ride and run perfect. Any suggestions?
Thanks

Is this noticeable if you are not looking for it? Does it bother you?
It is not at all unusual. A lean of around 1/2" has been seen on brand new trucks, and it usually is lower on the drivers side. The fuel tank is on that side, plus the driver, so the springs carry a bit more on that side.
Yours is a little more than that, and if it bothers you then it can be corrected. I would find a spring shop in your town and visit them. They can re-arch your springs just a little to correct that. If it does not bother you, then it won't hurt anything to just leave it.
Shocks will not cause this. You could have a broken leaf. Sometimes you can see a broken leaf, sometimes they break under the clamps and cannot be seen without disassembly.

I guess you could. Usually you don't use air bags to left an empty truck. Air bags are used to lift the truck back to a good ride height while loaded.
I think the first thing you want to do is make sure you do not have a broken leaf. If you do, it will eventually move on you which could be a safety issue. I said above that the lean would not hurt anything, but thinking on it further, a broken leaf should not be ignored.
