2005 F-350 stock 6.0 FX4
I have owned the truck 3.5 years
It has never been flashed, is the flashing specific to an issue (in my case fuel level sending unit) or is it general? I assume flashing is a computer update.
Any idea on cost?
Yes, what we call flashing, is writing new parameters into the computers. There are three computers that typically are included in an update. Powertrain Control Module (PCM), Transmission Control Module (TCM) and the Fuel Injection Control Module (FICM).
They use these updates to correct issues, or in the case of the most recent update, to add engine protection features.
These will not do anything for a fuel sender problem, if that is what you were hoping for.
The truck has more computers than that, but they are not often updated.
I've had the false P0460 in the past. It would clear itself after a while. So now I wonder if the flash I got recently will mean it won't happen again.
