Started about a month ago. Get the CEL, check the codes and its the #6 glow plug. Just been clearing the code so I don't have the CEL light staring back at me going down the road.
I've researched some on the forum and I understand that it could be the GP, the harness, or the module. However,
I don't get the code everytime I start the truck. Truck can be cold or warm, doesn't matter. Another clue is when I start the truck and don't wait for the glow plug light to go out I don't immediately get the CEL but it will sometimes (but not always) light up after a few seconds.
Any ideas to reduce the options of the failing part.
You want to check resistance through the suspect GP to find whether it is bad. If the GP checks good, then probably it is the module. There has been a couple of recent threads on how to test the GP.
Regarding the code and CEL, I found that if I cleared the CEL, the code didn't come back on the first hot engine start, then the code came back on a cold start without CEL, and the third start set the CEL.
In other words, it took more than one restart for the CEL to come back.
