So I get into the Mule this morning and I notice a new light on the dash. The "service engine soon" light appeared from the dark place from which it hides. I was a bit bummed to see it but at the same time I was able to try my new code reader out. It is throwing a P0603 glow plug to PCM com control, P0675 glow plug #5 Fail, and a P1000 needs more driving time?
The thing starts up just fine and it sounds great with no missing. I'm wondering if the p1000 code might reset things if I run it for a bit or should I get a new glow plug it ASAP? Thoughts or suggestions. As you can tell this diesel stuff is new to me. Thanks in advance.
The p0603 is a ROM error code and has nothing to do with glow plugs. That's a common code to get if you are running an aftermarket programmer or chip. The glow plug circuit for the number 5 cylinder means that either the wiring or the glow plug itself is burned up and needs to be replaced before the check engine light will go out.... It's a California emissions thing.
Strange... I went out to go home tonight and the truck started right up with no light? All seems well for now... I will re post this up if the light re appears.

The P603 in conjunction with the P1000 makes me believe the batteries were recently disconnected.
They may of disconnected electronically somehow but they have been physically installed and hooked up for the last 1000 miles... About 3 months now. Just curious... Do glow plugs only work on start up and are they really necessary in warm weather areas? Coming from gas powered vehicles I've been trying hard to retrain my brain to wait until the wait to start light goes out. I've found myself falling short many times and started it cold. I'm wondering if this has done any damage or could of caused the #5 glow plug failure light.
