Cold weather Glitch or problem?

I have an 01 Explorer and when it is cold out it takes a while for my oil preasure gage to pop up and show preasure. Again this is only when it is cold out. Is this something normal or is this a sign of something else going on?

Maybe a sensor about to go bad, I would hook up a gauge and check what the pressure is and go from there.

sometimes just an oil change will help. Do you use a 5 -20 to 10-30wt oil ? Dont go any thicker than 10 w-30.

My vote would also be on a bad switch. These don't actually use sensors, it's just a switch. Either the oil pressure is low or it's sufficient. Using a mechanical gauge to confirm would be good, but if you don't have any chatter or rattle at start up before the gauge reads pressure, chances are pretty good it's the switch.

Of course if you cannot remember roughly the last time you changed the oil then it wouldn't be a bad idea to change it before investing in a new switch....
