im looking to do some more small mods on my 7.3l so far i have 4" dp to 5" exhaust, airaid intake, and a dp tuner.im looking for small/somewhat cheap mods that i could do to get more out of this thing.i ran acrossed an aih delete just not sure what it does or if it gets more power out of it.what are your suggestions to get more power without spending a couple grand? thanks in advance
Van turbo - 200-400$
T-500 hpop 400$
Stage I's - 1000$
Aih won't gain you much if anything at all. If its working, leave it in there.
Do you have gauges, valve body or shift kit in trans? Must have supporting mods as you build power.
i have 5.13 gears in it already.dont really have goals just like being big and being able to still have power.i do tow a 36' toyhauler with my baja bug or sometimes my ranger in it but not that often.and dieselfitter do you have more info on the van turbo? i was going to change out the turbine in my turbo and get it port and polished.also how much does the t500 hpop give me because i was going to put in the new orings so if it gives me alot then i may as well go with a new one. thanks guys
My T-500 gave me more on the mid to top end by holding oil psi better. Bag for the buck I liked the mod. The van turbo is a nonwastegated turbo used on van trucks and ambulance type trucks. Used for towing spools a little slow, but when it does,it works great. It compliments my Ex well.
I second the Van turbo and to be honest I dont think it spools slow at all its just like the factory turbo on my truck. While I had the intake out I polished the inside of it, I figured it would help with spool up even though I thought Id never notice. A guy around where I live has a similar set up as I have and his turbo takes forever and a day to spool. He did a burn out infront of my house after we chatted in the drive way for a while and it took him about 10 seconds to start spinning the tires not to mention the cloud of black smoke be ingulfed the neibhors yard in (big yard too). My truck spools right now!! I have the tires roasting in about a second and a half
GR let us know what you do. We always like to here what others do and how they like it. I had a guy offer me a rebuilt Van turbo a year ago and I didn't go for it. I was worried about smog here and Ca. I wish I would of done it now. I am in the process of up dating my E99 now. I was going for the live tune this week by DP but decided to put in injectors first. Do you dally dirve with those 5.13 gears? My son is going tomorrow to put gears in his, 4.56 . When calculated it says he be like running 4.10's with his 35 tires. Thats hard to believe. Chet
what if i were to put a bigger turbine in the van turbo with more fins?would that help with the boosting slow if i get an unlucky one? also does anyone know about propane injection? i read up on it and it seems to do some good but i dont know anyone that actually runs it. and bonanza i will definately post what i do in here. yes i daily drive with 5.13s but i am on 40s so its just about equivalent to stock its not too bad but when towing it helps out alot because they're more torque than top speed
Great Gr. There was a guy on here a couple of years ago that ran propane. If done right it adds lots of power and cools the EGT's if I remember right. I think he likes to race alot and blow the motor. Don't quote me on that one but I haven't heard from him in a while. Was it quardzilla, not sure now.
Chet
I agree too that the van turbo spools pretty dam fast. by the time you punch it and look at your gauge, its over 30psi's and thats in a van with a wicked wheel
