Mine is leaking and generally getting worse. Does anyone have experience with brands other than Motorcraft. There is a remanned Cardone unit that has some filtration upgrade as well. As always the FoMoCo is twice as expensive. Is it twice as good? Also, whats the best way to tackle R&R of it?
Had a advance auto pump on mine. Lasted 3 years. Went back to ford. I borrowed a puller from a friend to remove and replace pulley. (has to be removed to get pump off). Harbour freight has the puller reasonable.
You can use Advance Auto's pulley puller for free. Make sure you use the little white plastic O ring in the high pressure fitting, I dropped mine and didn't see it and had a leak. Its been a year now so I can't say how long it will last.
ive been through numerous pumps on my rigs in the past 2 or 3 years. my recomendation is dont touch an oreilly unit they typically wine and fail from my experience. autozone was none the better. finally replaced them all with napa pumps and never a problem again
You might check Rock Auto. They carry several different brands, as wells as rebuild kits I believe. (or maybe it was just re-seal kits, I can't remember). Rebuilding A Ford C2 Power Steering Pump
Redman:
if is just the orings that are leaking like mine was ,i just put powerstering fluid with stop leak in it ,this fixed mine, hasnt leaked in six months,it takes about two weeks for it to swell the orings, cheep fix.
I think the pump itself suffered some damage several years ago when the line blew off and has only been getting worse. Not sure if it is rebuildable or not. That would be nice but it probably needs replacing. How can I tell?
