Hi everyone, so i had an eventful night last night coming home from a fair with all my buddies when my powersteering pump seized up and cooked my serpentine belt. IS it worth it to buy a motorcraft power steering pump vs other brands. I can get a motorcraft from rock auto for $140, napa wants over $200 for one of their napa pumps. Also, never changed a pump before, seems like the hardest part is taking the pulley off? Thanks everyone
I got a Motorcraft from Rockauto when I did my hydroboost brake conversion. It was pretty easy to install. I don't remember the details or any major issues. As Glenn mentioned you need to remove the pulley from the old pump and install it on the new one.
Get a pump from Auto Zone and they will loan you the puller & installer that you need. All of the Motorcraft stuff is rebuilt in Mexico probably by the same folks building the A/Z stuff. The A/Z stuff has a lifetime warranty.
I just had mine fail. I used a Cardone re-manufactured one from Napa. I'm not a fan of that brand but i needed one the same day. I think it was about $60 and it's been a couple thousand miles with no issues. I made an install tool with a piece of allthread, there isn't very much room at all to do it in the truck. I bought the pulley puller from Napa too.
