hi after doing an extensive search i cannot.find the answer, today my truck was filled with fire wood and when i was going down the road it started making a noise kind of like when a gas car is over heating.it would do it then quit.it did it several times and when it was doing it it was smoking out the exhaust really bad.i let off the fuel pedal and it eventually quit .the temp gague was in the normal position and the oil pressure was good .im new at diesels.thanks in advanced .
Any diesel conditioner, but if a injector is sticking open, they might be tired, and it won't help much if any at all.
But just for the hell of it, get a new fuel filter, and fill it up with diesel conditioner, start the engine up for 20 seconds, then shut it off, and let it sit minimum an hour, or over night is even better, then start 'er back up, let it warm up, and go for a good hard ride! Drive it like you stole it!
Also, if you need an IP and injectors....the injectors are fairly cheap, you might also wanna check to see what kind of pressure your IP is putting out..ii know the lift pump is a big one that screws with us...the 84 had its mech one from 1984 still working(I called the mechanic who rebuilt the 84) and the 83 has an electronic one that runs after the key turns on.
