Replaced if it isn't working right, don't just remove it because a couple of sensors are related to it, EGR and ECT if memory serves... If you remove it you will probably lose a couple of MPG and will gain nothing performance-wise.

305 with a breaker bar and you didn't break the bolt. What the hell is that bolt made out of!?

Glad you got it off though. Remember it might be embarrassing but if you didn't break anything you didn't waste money. You can go buy yourself a beer and forget all about it.

looks like its getting there, I know that the old rule of thmb is no more than the width of the chain, but i'm not sure how much that would apply to a double roller. I think that 1/2" play is the most acceptable limit. but I would go ahead and replace it, simply for the fact that you already have it apart

but it looks like the engine has missed its fair share of oil changes (or has been using some horrible oil) along with leaking its fair amount... it is diiirty!

Just be carful cleaning up all that sludge... oil screens, pumps, and filters, hate all of sudden being maxed out with sludge.

I would replace the timing chain as its not really that expensive. Get a new water pump because your down there. Once its all put back together I would run some sea foam through that crank case and than change the oil.

Just do NOT put any load on your motor while your running the sea foam in the crankcase and make sure your motor is hot when you do it. Load + thinned oil in bearings = knocka knocka knocka.

Thats alot of slop , replace it , how does it look in the pan , if there is sludge in there you might want to remove it and clean the pick up tube and screen while your at it.....Lew

yeah its rought looking. . could of used better oil changes in its life thats forsure! i was in the process of tryin to hunt down the leak but no idea where its coming from. more then likely i will go ahead and drop the pan and clean it since im already that far, and im sure some water has ran down in there and chunks and sludge willl drop..so its best to go ahead and drop it IMO..thanks for the tips and points guys its helpful. ill throw some more pics up this afternoon.

best advice i have for finding oil leaks is to take it down and completely wash the engine off, drive some and then look for the source.
