For whatever reason, we've decided that the balancer is the most likely reason for my belt shredding. I have the new one, and a local guy told me that it should come off easily without a puller. But, I don't have the most confidence in him, So before I get myself stranded without a way to run for parts, I'm asking you guys, Puller or no puller? And if a puller is required, will a standard balancer puller work?
Yes, a standard bolt grip puller set will work to remove it. We used my MAC Tools balancer installer tool set to put the Fluidampr one back on Barney's truck. Be sure to use anti sieze or other good lube inside and on the bolt threads the balancer when putting on the new one. We broke the long bolt on the installer that holds the pilot thread insert into the large screw. Luckily, we had it far enough to use the balancer bolt the rest of the way. It was a pretty darn tight fit. IIRC, the balancer bolt is a 16mm-2.0 thread and uses a 24mm socket.
