I have a 72 F-100 Explorer truck that I am restoring but there is one thing that I would like to attempt to convert. I am planning to install a floor shifter due to the column shifter being worn out and nonfunctional. If there is any fellow enthusiats out there that share my passion for old trucks and has any information on the type of shifter kits as well as any and all info on installation, trans Id numbers and any information that may help me to make this project glide smoothly would be most appreciated. Hope to hear from some of my Ford friends. OLD FORDS NEVER DIE, THEY JUST GET SEXIER.
You neglected to state whether your rig is a column-shifted manual or auto trans but I'll assume the latter....
Both Hurst and B&M offers all sorts of shifters for automatic transmissions. It's a matter of positioning the shifter, drilling a hole on the floor, routing the cable, and installing brackets to the transmission. Do a search at Jeg's or the Summit Racing website.

Please forgive me for not giving all necessary information. I have a manual transmission. It is a 3 speed on the column and I wish to convert it to a floor shift. If you can provide me with info on installation of a manual floor shift and where I may be able to search for shifter kits and linkages I would be most grateful. Thank you.

I agree with you and rustywheel68. I have checked the hurst website and others which have that shifter available. My problem now is getting the whole kit and kaboodle. Some of the sites indicate that the carry the shifter but not the linkages. I really want to install everything new since I am really trying to restore and add a bit custom work to it as well. So can you guys tell me where I can get the whole deal? I also would want to know if the shifter kit and linkages come with step by step instructions on installing it. Where may I be able to find instructions on installing the shifter and hooking up the linkages. Also wanted to know if this is a universal shifter which can be install to any three speed F-100 trans or will I need to find out what trans ID number I have and where do I look on the trans to find that ID number. Thanks guys you have been a great help thus far.
